Title: Madison (WI) Ice - March 12-13
Post by: Geoff Sobering on March 11, 2011, 01:53:53 PM
The Four-Lakes Club (http://iceboat.org/) has called on racing for this weekend sailing on Lake Mendota out of Warner Park (MAP (http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=1201+Woodward+Dr,+Madison,+WI) - the same launch as the Northwest regatta last week).

The west end of the lake was sailed extensively last Tuesday (just before the most recent snow) and the surface was reported to be "very smooth". No hazards have been reported. By the end of Tuesday (40F) the surface had softened and turned to about 1" of slush. Renegades and Nites reported no problems sailing in the 10-13 mph winds.

There is about 1 1/2" of snow left on the lake. At noon today (41F) is was soft. I don't know how it will change with lower temperatures overnight and tomorrow.

Saturday's wind forecast is for steady winds at or above 20mph. The NOAA is forecasting gusts into the upper 20's.
The wind is supposed to moderate later in the day and decrease to around 8 mph Sunday.
