Keep in mind that sailmakers who have a history of building DN sails are frequently able to advise their customers as to which model sail will best match the mast, the size of the skipper, and the ice and wind conditions. "You get what you pay for!" Title: Re: Peak sails Post by: DN 5449 on April 11, 2013, 10:53:45 AM I totally agree, but might be a nice option for a recreational iceboater or as a practice sail.
Title: Re: Peak sails Post by: wnethercote on May 26, 2013, 09:18:00 PM If Peak Sails' supplier is China Sail Factory then the DN sails they make are the Dieball Speed and Power sail designs. I bought a Power sail, through another supplier, for $675 CDN, taxes paid. The cut was good and the sail is competitive with the FO1s that most locals use in Nova Scotia.
When I first tried the sail the bolt rope was oversized and hung up in my Kent mast - worse, the tack cringle was too far forward. I had North Sails Atlantic install a new, smaller bolt rope and rebuild the tack, so I ended up with about a $900 sail when all was said and done, compared to about $1150, taxes paid for an MS-1 (my last North buy). I also had to take a belt sander to the top batten, although that was more irritation (scratch, scratch) than a serious problem. I did provide feedback to the loft, so hopefully subsequent production won't have this problem. |
