Thanks to all who helped make the regatta successful and fun. Many thanks to race leader Eric Lind, and all those who helped with scoring, racing and safety. Dan Hearn from Madison, Wis., the driving force behind the North American Ice Opti Racing Association, again brought together the future of our sport. What fun to watch the kids on the racecourse. They enjoyed each other’s company while basking in the spectacle of our great sport. Mike DeRusha, from Menominee in the Upper Peninsula, brought 15-year-old Sam Myers to race in his first iceboat regatta. Sam raced in the Silver Fleet; finishing second one race and seventh overall. He joined IDNIYRA and plans to be back as the youngest sailor in the North American Championship. Many thanks to the sailors who traveled long hours to attend: J.R. Francis from Florida, Hal Bowman from North Carolina, Guy Lovejoy from New York, Ben Shavitz from Pennsylvania, Mike Bloom and Pat Huttner from Minnesota, and all the sailors who came from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Matt Struble, regatta champion, moved to San Diego last summer. He flew in from California to fight it out with Ron Sherry. Dick Wollam and the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club found the regatta quality ice and provided the hospitality and race management. Many thanks to Chris Stoppel, who cooked the gumbo, red beans and rice, and brought the beer and munchies. Thanks to the City of Boyne City for its excellent launch facility and convenient amenities. And most of all, thanks to Rich Potcova, Central Lakes Rear Commodore, who brought it all together. Actually, Sam sailed in last-year's Western Region regatta on Lake Pepin (http://dnamerica.org/forum/index.php?topic=594.0)! Great to have some young people joining the class (we just have to make sure we keep Mike from getting him into a Renegade ;)) Title: Re: DN Central Region Championship results Post by: Ayes on January 19, 2010, 08:30:56 PM Cmmon Geoff, you know Sam reads this forum, you don't have to go giving him ideas like that ... ;D
