Title: Anchor Bay, Michigan
Post by: dn4379 on January 22, 2011, 04:55:11 PM
Sailed a plate off of Brandenburg Park on the north shore of Anchor Bay.  South and east of access;  mostly south and maybe east of Water tower in New Baltimore.  Crossed 1-2 jams to get to it.  Windy, blowing snow and poor visibility, quite bumpy, drifts 1-5 inches and getting firm, ice is 6-8 inches thick. Some of the white ice was easy to spud through and about 6 inches thick,  Bottom two inches was hard in those areas.  Not sure of size; GPS was not working well.  US 3 thought  a little less bumpy than last time at Peppin. He had 36 inch inserts on. Not fun at speed with short plates on!  No smooth spots. Couldn't go any further out without losing sight of land and risk sailing into north channel current areas. Needs to be rechecked when visibility improves.  Sorry for the long and inconclusive report but people want to know these days!
