Our club has one of Ron Sherry’s alignment fixtures. It’s very accurate and easy to use but it has a problem that took us over 10 years of use to figure out. With aligners on the ice or any other level surface and the rear runners on the aligners, the actual bottom edge of the runner is about one inch above the ice. This is not a problem except that your steering runner is on the ice and it’s about an inch lower. With most planks this would be like unloading over 100 pounds out of the the boat ( if my memory is correct the runners would be toed out a string width or two ). All you have to do to correct this problem is to put a 1” piece of wood etc. under the steering runner when doing an alignment. Any alignment fixture that has the runners sitting any distance above the ice will have the same problem and the same fix would work. The block just has to be the same thickness as the amount the rear runners are elevated.

I have lost weight and bought a new, softer Moore Bros mast to replace my now-too-stiff four-year old Kent 4.1 (76mm deflection at 95KG from the base to the hounds).  Anyone's weight going in the other direction who would like to swap a Kent 3.1 for my 4.1?  Not in a hurry - the 4.1 is now just my (too stiff) spare.

DN New England Champs are ON.  Sounds like Winni is in very good shape, wind forecast is light for Saturday but a little more promising for Sunday.  That said, the ice looks smooth enough that we mail be able to race in very little breeze...

Launch will be out of Ellacoya State Park
280 Scenic Dr, Gilford, NH 03249

Lodging available at the Fireside Inn and Suites just a few minutes from the launch-  ask for the iceboat group rate of $109 per night-
http://firesideinngilford.com/

Skippers Meeting Saturday AM at launch, 10:00 AM
First Race at 10:45 AM

Be sure to have your insurance with you!!!  NO EXCEPTIONS

Regular iceboating rules apply-  familiarize yourselves with them at
https://www.idniyra.org/racing/rules-safety/

NOTE- some iceboating Right Of Way rules differ from soft-water rules so read them closely-

IF three of any class show up and want to race they will get a start and races of their own-  all welcome!

In the DN Class a Vintage / Classic trophy will be awarded to the boat and skipper that has a certain combo of age / wear and tear / battle scars / character / and results!

We are looking for volunteers to run and score races-  earn some karma and volunteer!

If not no big deal, we can use the Maine system (Regatta Chair runs first race, from there on whoever wins a race gets to run and score the next one.  Average points awarded for the races missed.  I think.  Will figure it out when the smart people get there)

Feel free to contact me with any questions or to let me know what I've forgotten-

Stay tuned to NEIYA site for details and updates!   https://theneiya.org/

Think ICE and LINE 'EM UP!!

The way I do it is to put the batten vertically on a postal scale ( any scale  that will measure under 20 or so pounds accurately like a food scale will work) and press down on it. When it takes a set you’ll have the deflection weight.

Doctor's DN trailer is for sale. Its virtually brand new. Custom made to his specs, it is entirely aluminum. It is set up to hold 3 complete DN programs and gear, but could easily hold more. Masts fit inside trailer. Large access door in rear and 2nd access door on right side near front. Easily converted to Nite Trailer.

Picked up an older unfinished DN.Hull and plank are finished just need to be sanded and varnished. Most of all the hardware is there just needs installing. My intention is to piece it together and set it up and introduce some JR sailors to the sport.Only thing missing is a mast.Wondering if there are any older aluminum or wooden mast available to help complete the project.
