Dear friends,
the
IDNIYRA-Ballot 2011 is out and running also for European members and as every year we had much work to spread the information of the proposals and the ways to return the ballot votes. These immense efforts are more and more not in an appropriate rate to the returned votes. This opened again the discussion in the European board to install an online vote and with this posting I will initiate it also in NA, cause I think that the IDNIYRA Ballot as kind of a "grassroots democracy" should be well preserved.
I now will start a concrete action to come to a less labour-intensive ballot procedure with a higher number of participants. It should be only one worldwide setup to serve the members in NA and EU. In my view an online vote is the only way to save labour with concurrently increasing the DN-sailors who vote. Beside this online ballots have many other advantages and can be controlled in a way that only eligible voters can vote. A test environment is already running and I provided a link to it to some officials (also in NA), who could test it.
To get an oversight what's your (also DN sailors in NA) opinion, please make your contribution to this open and noncommittal survey to support or not support. Give it a chance, cause internet communication and work is a question of today's lifetime and will invoke especially younger sailors.
