 We got 2-3 inches of light snow last night and are postponing the Fun Regatta until next weekend. The call will be made by the evening of Thursday March 27. Bob

The Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club Fun Regatta has been called ON for this weekend March 29-30th. 
Dick Wollam and Bob Gray were on the ice on West Grand Traverse Bay this morning and just made the call.
We got rain overnight and minimal snow this morning, and are expecting the ice to freeze up adequately overnight tonight.   The weekend forecast looks good.
Launch site is the Grand Traverse Yacht Club 13615 S. West Bay Shore Dr., Traverse City, MI. 49684 
We will be doing registration tonight at the Club, from about 6p to 8p or so, but registration can be done Saturday morning too at the Club/launch site.  $15.00 fee
I'll post more information as I get it, but wanted to get this much out ASAP for those planning to travel.

For those arriving this afternoon or evening: the Yacht Club is open on Fridays and the parking lot fills up quickly. If you will arrive later than 5 pm, we suggest to set up your boat Saturday morning. Do not leave trailers in the GTYC lot this afternoon or evening please. Extra parking across M22 behind the blue large office building. Thank you!

The ice has already firmed up tonight!  We plan to start races around 1030a-11a if at all possible.  Registration at the launch (in the club) in the morning.  Check in by 10 am if you can so we can get the fleets organized.

What happened at the Fun Regatta scheduled for March 29-30?

Light winds winds on Sunday in slushy conditions & shell ice meant we only got two races in with the second turning into a push fest for many.  If memory serves me correctly, the Gold fleet was won by John Harper, followed by Don Jones (?) and Julie Richards.

A nice end to the season, although tonight the ice on west bay was looking sooooo tempting.  A skimmer was seen sailing late afternoon and ripping it up.  Some GTIYC members may be sailing Skegamog tomorrow.

Here are the results of the Fun Regatta held March 29-30th on West Grand Traverse Bay, Traverse City Mi at the GTYC Yacht Club.
Challenging conditions (some shale ice, lighter winds as the day wore on) but sunny and temperate and everyone had fun sailing West Bay for the first time in over 10 years!
GOld and Silver fleets sailed together. Silver fleet finishes noted to the right.
