Maybe I'm looking for perfect condisions

I was always under the impression that a DN had to have clear ice to sail on. But, I see pictures of them sail on snow covered lakes. No, not at sixty miles per hour but, it looks like fun. Any thought on that?

three to four inches of fluff is ok. drifts over 7 inches hit under the plank hard plus it's really hard on boat if one runner hits a drift but not the other because they have no framing stays to support the ends of the plank. firm drifts will stop the boats when heavier boats might get thru them. Also with so many boats in a fleet; drifts near the start can make it really unfair. So can big piles of goose poop, but you can ask Ron Sherry about that, he had to dodge such a mine field in Austria this year. Goose poop is murder on the runner edges!

Thanks for the information about goose poop. When does it slow the boat down, when its frozen or still warm??
Thanks for info about snow depth and conditions.
