Question??

I bought a Dn with wood runners with screw on metal runners. They are 38 inches long. Are these common?

I assume the metal is steel T iron. Wood body runners are common, but DN class rules limit the length to 30-36 inches. The metal may be T, angle, or steel plate inserted into a slot in the bottom edge of the wood body.
The construction of a racing wood body runner typically is well engineered and commonly encased in carbon fiber or with aluminum angle on the side, to improve the strength of the wood body.

Can you post a photo?
(you can do that using the "+ Additional Options..." link at the lower left).

It looks like you have a nice "classic" DN.
You have "angle-runners" which were common many years ago because they were easy and inexpensive to make. These days they are used only as "slush runners" for very soft ice conditions.
The runners should give you some good rides if you keep them sharp.
At some point you will probably want to get a set of plate runners; they are the most versatile and reliable type of runner. Keep an eye out here and at any local iceboat groups and you will probably find an old set relatively cheaply.
If your runners are over 36" long, then they are not legal for DN racing.
The front is also sharper than the current rules allow (min. 5/8" diameter).
None of that applies for just cruising...

Thanks Geoff. I don't plan on racing just having fun. I would like to get a better set of runners
