ICE SAFETY

I just recieved my Runner Tracks and read the great article on ice safety by Lloyd Roberts. If i might I would like to add one item to his part on personal safety. WEAR A VERY LOUD WHISTLE. I was returning to shore from a race course one day and went thru the ice. No one saw me go in and although I could see my gang walking around, I was just far enough down wind that they couldn't hear me. Only by dumb luck one of them saw me after about 20 minutes and I was rescued. A whistle would have insured that someone heard my distress pleas. By the way the edge of the ice was so rotten that my ice picks wouldn't work.
