The First Annual Ice Opti
North American Championships
December 1-2, 2007
Think Ice! And mark your calendars for the premier Junior Ice Sailing Event of the 2007-2008 North
American Season. The event will be held in conjunction with the annual Western Challenge Cup, the first
weekend in December, on the best available ice in the Western Region.
This exciting event will include a Junior Ice Opti sailing clinic on November 30.
The focus of the clinic will be on:
· Fun & Safety (helmets and life jackets required)
· Rigging & Tuning
· Course Management & Right-Of-Way Rules
· Techniques in Starting, Stopping & Speeeeed
(Chalk talk debrief to be held Friday and Saturday nights at the hotel)
The clinic will be conducted by an All Star line-up including:
· Matt Struble -- the reigning World and North American DN Champion
· Ron Sherry -- multi-time World and North American DN Champion
· Other DN Champions -- including John "JD" Dennis, Jeff Kent, a female skipper,
and others to be announced
Many DN sailors from across the country have volunteered
to help make this event a huge success for all involved; so… come one, come all.
No boat yet? Come anyway!
We're hoping to have a number of Ice Opti's available to try.
Races will alternate between the Ice Optis and DNs, so race techniques can be observed, shared and
learned. The event is open to sailors 16 and under, and will conclude by noon on Sunday to avoid missed
