The season- It isn't over yet!

Several events are promising this weekend:


     The first iceboat closed course race.  Short, closed course elimination racing in Minnesota.

     The Western Region Championship.  Possibilities include Lake Geneva and other freshly zambonied lakes in Wisconsin.  See the post in the Regatta Notices board.


   Other classes including stern steerers and skeeters of all sizes and varieties at WSSA and ISA, both called for Lake Geneva.

Other events, the fun regatta, etc still pending. 

There is lots of ice under that snow, and spring sailing begins now.

Well, maybe it is.

Time to start the projects to improve the program for next year.  Unless Winnebago clears enough to sail one more time....

a travel box for the new trailer.

Hi Ken,
We are still sailing 18" of ice every day there is wind.
The bottom 9 to 12" is clear hard ice. The top is hard white ice.

The ice is still great on Elk Lake and Lake Charlevoix in Northern Michigan.
We check Elk Lake daily and cut out chunks to check the integrity at least every other day.
So far it looks great! We have a guy here from the Gull Lake club right now sailing with
all of us and more expected this weekend if nothing drastic happens with the weather.

I'm not sure it's over here in Madison, either.  Last Thursday, before the snow, the landing on Middleton Bay was still tight on shore, and the ice solid.  I haven't checks back since, but the 20+ mph winds and sun all day today have really cleared things off.  The forecast is for below freezing overnight temps for the rest of the week, with a 20F low Friday night to harden the surface up for Saturday.

It could happen!
