When are we going to be forced to put these numbers on our boats and if we have 2 different numbers, which one do we use.

Bob, another question might be, "When will members be asked to vote as to whether or not the DN community wants to be divided by nationality and, if so, what letter each national fleet wants to use as designators?"   No where in the governing documents is there currently reference to national designators.

The rule "officially" takes effect Jan. 1, 2009.  I am sure now one is going to care one way or the other ( at least in NA) untill maybe the 2009 GC/NAC in February.  As for putting numbers on my fuselage; I'm not too happy about it but they will be on my fuselage by February.
The whole purpose is for easier eye level identification of nearby competitors to help with rule enforcement and hopefully compliance.  Therefore it only makes sense that the "numbers" should match what is on the sail you are racing with and registered with for the regatta.  Scoring at continental events is challenging enough, no one should try to race with different numbers on their two sails.
As for national identifying letters;  That is an interesting observation, I'll work on that one!

Since the entire iceboating community is "snowed in" we will have time to meet the requirements of Proposal 9 &10. Does someone have a source for the self adhesive tape mactac8054 and mactac8044 red & green florescent to meet the 80% minimum? Do they also make the letters and numbers to affix to each side of the fuselage?

It's obvious what I think of this proposal. The latest Runner Tracks states that the results of vote on these proposals will be on this website. Not enough. If  you are a brand new member in the last month you wouldn't have gotten the issue, and if you don't get on a computer, you wouldn't necessarily know about the change and could end up showing up at a major regatta without numbers and be somewhat screwed. If you make a rule change  it shouldn't be  official until you receive notice in the mail. Anyone how is a member as of 1 Jan 2009 should be so notified.

I am in the process of purchasing a vinyl cutting system for another organization. I may be able to use the equipment and should be able to supply the numbers at a reasonable cost. I should have an answer in a couple of days and will post details here.

Please note that Proposal 9 was approved.  This related to letters and numbers on side panels.

Proposal 10 was the red-green on the side panels.  That proposal failed.  Though it had the simple majority of the votes, to be approved it needed twice as many "yes" votes as "no" votes.

What happens if I choose not to put those ugly numbers on my nice hull?

Should I plan on staying home?  I have no interest in putting them on my hull.

I could always go around in circles then I guess.

For vinyl selfstick letters, look on DoItYourselfLettering.com
Just add the cost to your iceboating budget.

But hurray for the objectors!  After carefully selecting the spruce for the side panels, now we're expected to cover it up with ugly lettering.

A declaration of independence!  That's why we threw the tea into Boston Harbor.

This is an unfortunate rule change, that has been passed by our astatically challenged friends.  There are so many great craftsmen that have built very beautifull boats. It would be a shame to put those tacky numbers on them.   Is this Nascar?Huh
I am not going to the numbers on my hull.  If I can't come and play just as I am starting to get into racing DN.'s again so be it.   Cry
I've had a DN since the early 90's and am really wanting to step up the program.
The red and green thing definately would not be going on my boat either. at least it didn't get passed---this time.

My.02  weather you wanted it or not.  But it doesn't look like I'm alone on this one either.

It sounds like it might be a great fit for you to go to the Worlds/NAs and volenteer to help out with the race comitee .That way you could be a BIG part of the event without worrying about scratching or cluttering up the sides of your beautiful hull.Anyway if it would help the race or protest commitee more easily do their job I would paint my boat pink with purple and green spots if thats what they needed.

There is no way I am missing that feeling you get coming into the first weather mark at a big regatta. Boats all around you, wind blowing hard, that HARD downwind acceleration..........right on the edge of control................

I'll be able to supply cheaper than that lettering.com place and keep this in the family. Looking at about $25 per set, which will include a 10% donation to a charitable foundation (their equipment), and including first class postage. Variety of colors/fonts to choose from. A lot nicer and easier to apply than self-stick letter sheets.  I should have a flyer posted in the next few days.

I've been able to put this together as noted above. $25 per set for standard colors (8 to choose from), $5 more for florescents. Fleets of 10 can save $50. Ten fonts to choose from.

Ten percent goes to one of three cancer charities. Free shipping in the USA. Sales tax included in MI.

See you on the ice.

George

New 6 styles are now at the Iceboat Graphics online store at http://www.marketingacuity.com/iceboat/

Also at the store is the "anti-number" outline that uses your wood hull as the number.

Cheers,
George
