The 2009 European Championship was sailed in St. Petersburg, Russia.

I looked at the European Championship SI's and they will sail untill, 1. 20 races or 2. Friday.  So they are only half way done.

Did you notice in the photos that the ground is bare.  No snow.  Amazing.

Apparently snow today at European championship and wind too strong.  No racing today, February 21st.

The regatta's last day ended Thursday with one Silver Fleet race; snow ended the event.

Vaiko Vooremaa of Estonia is the European Champion for 2009.
Hal Bowman of North Carolina sailed in the Silver Fleet and was the only USA sailor to participate.

Now that hull numbers are required and some people not wanting to use the National Letters on their hulls; which LETTERS represent which COUNTRY?  Is there a list somewhere designating which country is which letter?  Take for instance the results from the European Championship, which country has the designation "O"?   How about "L"?    How about "M","Z" and "B"?

Is there a list of country codes that could be shared with the class members?

It is my guess that a strong contigent of European sailers will attend the Gold Cup event, so it only makes sense to know the designations.

Can someone please post the list?

Hello Mark,
it's really important to have the national letters, cause the DN is an International Class. Maybe we should have an EU sign (for Europe) in our sail and on the hull ;-). But in opposition to Northamerica we have many countries in Europe and every country has its own DN sailnumber assignment. Therefore we must have so many country codes, otherwise the European DN numbers will mess up. Imagine a regatta where i.e. 5 boats with a 123 will appear. No one would know who is who - a horrable scenario for a race committee. And beside this is it the sole responsibility of the National secretaries to assign numbers to their members!!
Here is the list of national letters which mostly came from the historic national letters for iceboats, which the nations had in former times when iceboating starts in Old Europe.
D = Denmark
S = Sweden
N = Norway
L = Finland
R = Russia
B = Belarus
C = Estonia
O = Latvia
T = Lithuania
P = Poland
CZ = Czech Republic
G = Germany
OE = Austria
M = Hungary
Z = Switzerland
K = United Kingdom
H = Netherlands
I = Italy
F = France(maybe an upcoming nation)

then add US and KC and we have the whole family complete.
