I will hijack the hijack here ...

Teal Lake is located in the central UP.  Use Zip Code 49866 in mapquest to find it.
I am afraid there has been a little embellishment of the current conditions there.
Although there is still 24 to 30 inches of solid ice we have had a couple of inches of windblown snow with daytime temps in the high 30's and nighttime temps in the mid 20's.  the result is a couple of inches of slush over a bumpy hard surface. I haven't sailed the lake since March 22nd.  I am hoping that the large female vocalist does not make her appearence here for another week or so.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Hope you find the info on your boat and mast!

Sam's 500-acre Teal Lake is located in Negaunee just west of Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Sam - was your sail Saturday safe and fun?

April ice sailing below the Mackinac Bridge is almost unheard of. At downstate latitudes the sun is so high in the sky ice rarely remains safe past the last week of March.

Sam, please let us know where you're sailing early next season. The UP has many lakes, but few DN sailors checking ice and reporting in.

A large group of DNs enjoyed fantastic sailing on 10,000-acre Indian Lake near Manistique in December 2006. Downstate groups have also sailed Moss Lake, about 15 miles west.

Well we have kind of hijacked this thread again, but ...

We got a great day of sailing in on Teal Lake in Negaunee.  Sam came up from Menominee with Mike D. and we had a blast.  Mike said that it was only the second time in his life he had been sailing in April.  We got a couple of other local guys out who don't have their own boats (yet). Chad and Steve from Northern Michigan University and my good buddy Zeb fron Marquette all stopped by during the day.

The shoreline is still tight and the ice got pretty slushy by the end of the day but it was great to spend one more day with friends on the ice!
