sail often, travel light

« on: January 30, 2007, 06:14:26 AM »

An impromptu event is shaping up in the west.  Is anybody else ready for a super road trip?  Any DNs planing to attend?  Possible way-backup site for the worlds?  Its only 1500 miles from Chicago.

Dale Livezey writesat NALSA.org, "Many ice boaters are making commitments to come to this fun event. The stern-steerers, Deuce, Taku, Michigander. Jack and Kelly Jacobs with Magic and Black Ice. Burly, Fritz and friends. Dirt boaters will becoming to try the hard water for the first time. We have an RV camp right by the ramp, and many public camping spots without hook-ups. Small motels in Townsend 5 min. away, a deluxe B&B 3 min. away, and many options for food and lodging in Helena 25 min. away. Drop what you are doing, grease those trailer axles, and join us for what might end up being called the "Woodstock" of iceboating. Spectacular scenery awaits and miles of hard ice.

We had very light winds, and even with just the storm sail, we were able to sail "Bird" for the first time in ten years. We put in a bunch of hours refinishing her in the last few months.  REGATTA NEWS - Forecast for this week is cold temps, the ice will continue to build. A small chance of snow which means if we get any it won't be much. Friday night is the full moon and if you are here you will have a chance to see it rise behind the Big Belt Mountains!  Saturday night we will have an outdoor chili feed and bonfire. All ice boaters are welcome."

Wonder hwat it would cost to hire a vehicle hauling truck to transport our DN gear to Montana?
Then we could fly commercial to Helena, or charter a plane.
Meet up at Canyon Ferry.
