Full size DN hull templates for sale

(1/1)

Paul Goodwin - US 46:
I have full size templates available for building the DN iceboat hull.

These templates will save hours of time by eliminating lofting (scaling up from small plans), and also eliminating most measurement.

There is a side panel template, with all internal structure shown. Once you cut out the side panels, you transfer all the internal locations to the inside of the panels.  There is also a plan (top) view template that you build the hull on. You place the plan view template on a building jig (flat workbench), cover it with clear plastic, then place the side panels into position. All the lines on the inside of the side panels line up with corresponding lines on the plan view template. Looking inside the hull, you see essentially a 3-D wireframe of the internal structure. Then it's simply a matter of cutting out the internal structural parts, and gluing them into position on the lines.

This method greatly simplifies the building procedure, and almost guarantees that your new hull will meet all the current specifications. I also include a set of step-by-step building instructions with graphics to help the first time builder.

This is a very competitive design, and boats built from these templates have finished in the top ten at all International level regattas sailed in North America for over ten years.

Geoff Sobering:
I can attest to the usefulness of Paul's template.  I've built/helped-with a number of boats using various combinations of modifications to existing plans, and helped/watched a number based on Paul's plans.  I have to say the process with the plans was much smoother.

Dear Mr Goodwin,

I am William Janssen from the Netherlands (europe) Amsterdam / Almere city, In the past i sailed with an old DN on local waters nearby amsterdam.
I always dreamed of building one myself. In January I would like to order the template for building a DN boat.
I am a first time builder and want to ask you if this is possible to build myself?
Can you sent me pictures of DN boats, which are built by using this template?
do you also give advise of the kind of wood to use?

Sincerely yours,

William Janssen

Geoff Sobering:
The Pewaukee (Wisconsin) group posted some step-by-step photos of DN construction: https://ice.idniyra.org/image/tid/28

That should give you a fairly good idea of the complexity of building a DN.
If you are familiar with basic woodworking, it is not a difficult project.

Cheers,

Geoff S.
