Muskegon area: they are sailing on White lake
Irish Hills/ Jackson: Sand lake still very good, has been sailed on for over a week.
Toledo: They are still sailing on Maumee Bay, today and all week, only light snow predicted, enough ice for .75+ mile course in any direction. Good ice, lots of races on it last weekend.
Pontiac: Pontiac Lake, smallish but still sailable
Novi: north of I-96, 7-12 inches of "fast" ice, several people (DNs and Opties)sailing today (wed), access on NE corner in town at bar/restaurant/ public access
Mt.Clemens: Anchor Bay/ Lk St. Clair not sailed yet, no info
Cass Lake, Oakland county, no report, probably open in middle where 80 ft deep.
Bay City: no report,
Houghton Lake: I,m guessing snowed out for at least two months, great snowmobile conditions however!
Sandusky Bay: reported frozen, not sailed yet, swap meet Sun?.

Maumee Bay has been sailed now for 8 days in a row. Last night was the best conditions as the wind direction allowed us to set the course closer to shore where there was the smoothest ice, and also into a sheet of newer black ice. This morning we had less than a half inch of soft snow. Drifts are very few and less than an inch deep. TIYC Race Committee has called for racing to happen on the next 2 sundays, if conditions allow. Overall it seems that the ice has smoothed out just a touch since the weekend. As of Jan.1, 2011, 19:30hrs
Toledo----- lots of standing water still today. Drain hole status will be checked tomorrow AM.
Muskegon--- area is not sailable, local lakes there need to heal after rain and warm.
Novi---- Walled lake was reported as clean very smooth looking snow ice as of yesterday. About 10 inches thick. A local will sail it tomorrow. Drain hole status is unknown until sailed tomorrow.
Irish Hills---- Sand Lake---- no water as of now, probably drain holes where fishermen were, being checked tomorrow AM.
All these areas will be well below freezing by midnight tonight. Be careful if you venture out. Things should be great in many areas by next weekend is my guess.

Toledo - Maumee Bay does not have standing water. But the issue to be looked at in the morning is drain holes or any new holes opened up. There should be about 6 Inches of ice... question is what tonights (Saturday nights) freeze will do. Report in the morning after dawn.

Jan 2, 21:30hrs.
Toledo: will be checked tomorrow, probably healed by then.
Novi: Walled lake is smooth and fast. Far western end is bumpier, lots of Goose shit and some ice fishing debris in NW corner, ROCKS sticking thru ice .3 miles out from shore E-SE end. Very good for racing or cruising.
Irish Hills: Sand lake has healed and is 6-8 inches of black ice.
West Michigan: Gun lake looks great in SW end, will be sailed tomorrow. Bear lake looks great will be sailed tomorrow. Reeds lake reported good with an open area in middle.
Traverse City: Skegamog looked good, too windy to sail much today, people going back Mon to better check.
NOTICE: Time to find ice for Centrals in TWO WEEKS!

Dick Wollam sailed 20-square-mile Houghton Lake Monday with Randall Kline. The Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club members found 10 inches of ice.
Dick reports the ice as "I'm going back as soon as I can." They were able to sail the lake's vast mid section. The downwind leg back from the bar was outstanding, Dick said.
They put in at the spacious DNR West Launch. There they found it snowmobile rough along the shore, but once east of the recurring pressure ridge from Houghton Lake Heights to North Bay Point, it was virgin ice and great sailing.
Let's watch the weather for favorable weekend sailing, Dick said.

Boy, do we have ice!
1)Houghton lake: nice access west side by M-55, miles of great ice out past the usual pressure ridge.
2)Gun Lake: access on sw corner, entire west side smooth and sailed on Sunday.
3)Irish Hills: Sand Lake: access at ramp on east side, clean and smooth, no holes, sailed for weeks
4)Novi, MI.: Walled Lake, Access on ne corner in town of Walled Lake next to restaurant an from restaurant lot, smooth for the most part, watch for rock pile near sw shore and goose poop. Raced all day on Sunday.
5)Toledo, Maumee Bay, access at foot or 125th st. off Summit St., smooth, clean, stay in the bay inside a line from island near channel to first point on mainland.
6)Kalamazoo: Austin Lake south of town sailed all day on Sunday
7)Muskegon: Bear lake, sailed on Sunday, ok, beware of holes near bubblers on North side
8)Lk St. CLair and Anchor Bay, Elk lake, nothing sailable yet.
9)Pontiac lake near M-59, assuming still sailable, on the small side
10)Lake NIppising south of flint, sailed for about two weeks, not sure how smooth it is or access
DN Westerns + Opti NAs scheduled this weekend.
Watch for snow accumulation as usual. Get to houghton if you want really big ice, it will likely snow out soon.
