All the popular sailing classes (Laser, Hobie,Lightening,J-24) have put out instructional D.V.D's. These are comprehensive D.V.D's covering everything from boat set up to skilled sailing techniques (Look at Laser Coach as an example).Maybe the time has come for the DN class to look into putting one together. The Blue print for doing it is already out there and with all the talented people we have in the Class we should be able to make it happen.I would be more then willing to help out but it would involve a group effort, needed would be some World Class sailors, some video and editing skills, and some marketing strategy.Might even end up as a money maker for the Class.Maybe a good starting Strategy would be to poll the Class and see how much interest there would be in it.

I find that although this is a great class, with a lot of great people, there is still a lot of  mysteries and secrets.I am not talking about building technique because I can appreciate some one who has built something himself and found ways to get faster to be some what secretive about it.But I really believe as with the Classes of Boats (I mentioned in my earlier post) that sailing techniques and set up should be avaliable to every one (some like myself are more of a visual learner).Yes I realize that if you meet up with these guys and question them most would be very receptive ,but not all of us get a chance to do that.
I have never met Robert Schiet (World Class Laser Sailor) but I have video ,audio of him on all points of sail including ,starting, tacking and gybing in all wind conditions (courtesy of Laser coach D.V.D).I am also smart enough to know that just by watching and listening I am not automatically going to become as good as Schiet on my Laser but at least I can practice his good form and not left to invent my own bad habits.

FYI:   In the Western Region there is a DN promotional initiative underway headed  by DN sailor Scott Brown.  Scott is an experienced DN and Nite Class racer.    Marketing is his profession.

So just relax a little, Scott expects to have promotional plans in place prior to the end of May, 2011.  Preliminary discussions have acknowledged both needs for a way to attract new sailors as well as to help them get the most enjoyment from their DN, both racing and recreational sailing.  No stone will be left unturned.

As the intiative takes form, all will be advised.

In the mean time, make the needed repairs on your DN, get ready for summer, and chop down the dandelions.
